The venue for our monthly council meetings is St Begh’s junior school (Behind St Begh’s Priory Church). It also wheelchair friendly.

Council 74 was established on February 24th 1924. Soon after we acquired the rooms in Queen street Whitehaven at a location near our old club in order to hold our meetings. After a while the council rented some rooms above Burtons in King street, following which they moved to large premises above the Co-op store in Tangier street. Finally we bought the club building in Queen street. Over the time the council had a large, vibrant membership and were very active supporting the clergy and parish work. Many fundraising events were held and the council anniversary of its foundation was always celebrated with a Annual dinner and dance.

The churches in our area are at St Mary's Egremont, St Mary’s Cleator, St Begh’s Whitehaven, St Mary’s Kells and St Benedicts Mirehouse. We have members and a Council Chaplain, Rev Deacon John Kennedy who are members in the above parishes. A number of brothers currently in our council transferred from Egremont and Cleator upon closure of their Councils.

If you wish to be involved in such an organisation why not start by contacting us at Council 74
