Council 609 meets in the Market Town of Kendal and centres on Holy Trinity & St. George Catholic Church, New Road, on the banks of the River Kent. The Council Contact is Wilfred Gill and you can contact the Knights by telephone at 01524 762124, or by email at Council 609

The Council covers a geographically wide and rural area of South Cumbria - roughly 1000 square miles of villages, rock, water and sand – this is the land of old Westmorland and Lancashire-over-the-Sands. Our Council area takes in Grasmere to the north: the Lancashire Border to the south: Kirkby Lonsdale to the east and Coniston to the west.

Council 609 is also a member of Cumbria Province 6, covering the County of Cumbria and which is also a part of the Diocese of Lancaster.

Council Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month - except August. The venue is the Narthex (glazed area at the back of the church) in Holy Trinity & St. George, Kendal and is wheelchair friendly.

Meetings are at 7.30pm preceded by Holy Mass at 7pm.

Council 609 was founded in 1973 and was originally called Kendal Council. The name was changed in 2003 to Kendal and South Lakes. The churches in our area from south to north are at: - Arnside, Milnthorpe, Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere; and from east to west are at Kirkby Lonsdale, Grange-over-Sands, Flookburgh and Coniston.

We have 12 members and a Council Chaplain – of which five are from Kendal and our ages range from over 40 years to turned 80 years. We also have two members in Barrow-in-Furness, transferred to us when Barrow Council 19 was closed.

In truth, we are very short of members; whilst we do the work of the Order to the best of our ability, low numbers do have a bit of a limiting affect. We need new Members so that we can really expand our horizons in our social life as Knights and in doing the work of the Order.
